Director Mae Cruz has worked with Anne Curtis and Sam Milby on two chapters of the teleserye Maging Sino Ka Man (MSKM), so she said she’s already used to their constant quarrels on the set of Star Cinema’s latest movie offering Babe I Love You.
“Kasi kapag sila magkaaway as in super galit na galit daw. Pero nung nagpra-practice si Anne mag-drive ng kotse para sa isang scene, si Sam lingon ng lingon tsaka bulong ng bulong na, ‘Yung clutch, yung clutch.’ Parang gustong lumapit at tumulong. Nung meron namang sakit si Sam, hindi sila nag-uusap sa loob ng car tapos si Anne nakatingin na parang gustong-gusto na niyang itanong, ‘Are you ok?’ Pero parang pinipigilan niya yung sarili niya. Sa isip ko, ‘Ay nako. Sandali lang yung away nito.’ Eventually sila din naman yung mag-uusap. Ganon talaga sila e,” the director explained.
Both Anne and Sam were in perfect agreement with what Direk Mae said as they smiled throughout the latter’s interpretation of their attitudes towards each other. Anne even urged Direk Mae to share the real story behind her emotional outburst during a shoot in a bar somewhere in Quezon City. Rumor has it that Anne and Sam had a major fight that day but it turns out that the 24-year-old actress was simply moved to tears after relating her character’s emotions to her own feelings for Sam in real life—a motivation technique which Direk Mae urged them to apply for dramatic scenes.
“I wanted Sam to have that real gulat reaction sa isang scene na pinupuri ni Sasa (Anne) si Mico (Sam) in public. So binulungan ko si Anne na, ‘You start off with the first few lines in the script then say thank you to Sam. I remember one thing you said about him is that you can let your guard down when you're with him. Then take it from there.’ Given that Anne is a very emotional person, nadala din siya sa eksena because that's how it's supposed to be. So nung nangyari yun, si Sam gulat na gulat talaga and Anne was teary-eyed while she was saying her lines. Tapos nung nag-cut, Sam even went on stage and sat beside her habang siya nagwa-wipe ng tears. Habang ako nagpre-preview ng take, lahat ng tao na nandun tinutukso silang dalawa. Yun lang po yun. Walang matinding awayan ang naganap,” Direk Mae clarified.
With all the things she knows about Sam and Anne, the entertainment press couldn’t help but ask the director her thoughts on why the two haven’t gotten back together. “Kung bakit pinipigilan nila yung sarili nila? I think they will always remain special to each other. I mean, we could see how they are now. Kung hindi ba naman special ‘yan they won’t be like this. It's just that I think alam na nila kung anong mistakes nila before. And now, they're taking it day by day. Parang it's good that things are peaceful and that they're getting to know each other as friends. You never know kasi what the future has in store for them. Because it’s undeniable, the chemistry is really there,” she beamed.
